If you cannot see the Site Map/Menu Bar on the left; then your search engine may have directed you to this page only. To go to the Home Page, click http://www.sadoldgit.com
This page contains a selection of items that might appeal to younger viewers. Perhaps you might want to take them on holiday with you for those rare moments when you are bored - usually first thing
in the morning while Mum is washing up or after tea when Dad is watching sport on TV and there is nothing else to do.
Let us assume that you are looking for some interesting activities to do either on holiday or at home. Here are some suggestions.
If you want a good book to read, either fiction with adventure and fun, or an informative book, then click on the 'Virtual Library' link in the Menu on your left.
Now here is a nice poem called 'I'D LIKE TO BE A LIGHTHOUSE' by Rachael Lyman Field
With any on the above items you should be able to make some nice souvenirs or presents for you family.
Good Luck.

First you need a friend and Teddy will do the job nicely. The one on the left is wearing his shirt of the now defunct Trinity House National Lighthouse Museum in Penzance, Cornwall whilst the one on the right is wearing a jumper of the Association of Lighthouse Keepers.

Next a good jig saw with lots of pieces. This one on the left shows a happy scene with a lighthouse in it but with 500 pieces. The one on the right is a modern one which shows Hurst lighthouse and not so many pieces.

The latex rubber mold on the left will allow you to make plaster of Paris models of lighthouses. You can, of course, use other materials to make the models but you must be careful what you use. A soap lighthouse is harmless enough and you can use it when you wash. On the right is a brass stencil
of a lighthouse. It looks black here because it was difficult to scan but you can easily paint or crayon over it to make a pattern and then wash the stencil afterwards.

Here is another mold - probably better to make for a garden ornament and another stencil. This time it scanned better to show that it is made of very thin brass. That means it will wear well and last longer.

Rubber ink stamps can be fun. Here are 3 of different sizes. Can you spot the difference between the two similar imprints on the left ? All the impressions on the left were done with a blue ink pad but you can use what ever colours you like.

Have you ever played the card game called 'Solitaire' on your school or home computer ? When I was a boy before computers were invented we played the same game but with actual playing cards and the game was then called 'Patience'. Find yourself an old pack of playing cards at a car boot sale and it they have a lighthouse on them then so much the better. Mine
show La Corbiere lighthouse in the Channel Islands.

On the left the Enid Blyton books are always a safe bet for some exciting reading by your self. If you are younger but need an easy 'First Read' book then you will like 'The Little Lighthouse Keeper' in the middle, but if you are learning to read or still need Mum or Dad to read to you then the Racing to Read series on the right will enthrall you all.
All scrubbed and painted white.
I'd like to be a lighthouse
And stay awake all night.
To keep my eye on everything
That sails my patch of sea;
I'd like to be a lighthouse
With the ships all watching me.
